Our Mission
When creativity and children are fused together, magical things begin to happen…
The mission of Music Makes You Smarter /After School Music Workshops is to provide a place which promotes self-expression and communication through music. We believe that by giving children the opportunity to explore who they are, and have fun doing it, we provide a fantastic creative experience they can carry with them throughout their lives. In addition to exploring their creative natures, this program would:

1) help kids stay safe after school
2) help working families
3) help kids develop communication & interpersonal skills
4) help kids develop strong identities
5) encourage full expression in the arts
6) gain a new appreciation for music

The goal of this class is for everyone to have fun making music. Children are very creative and have the abilities to create wonderful music and art if given the tools and the freedom to express themselves. These classes will be scheduled so that no student will be sitting around bored.

The benefit to the children will be personal guidance and patient encouragement to allow each student to explore their own unique visions while providing a much-needed service after school. Students will receive the rare experience of working with all professional studio equipment and a professional instructor.

Our Workshops
Concepts of modern music making made fun for kids. Taught by Mark Tyson, a professional musician with 25 years in the music business. These workshops focus on how a song is made, from start to finish. Students will have live demonstrations as well as hands on learning. At the end of the course each student can have a CD with their own song, produced and recorded right there in the class with a music workstation and a 16 track Yamaha portable digital studio. Students will learn basic songwriting and recording concepts such as beat making, song conceptualization, sampling, and recording. In the recording phase, the student will learn how to record a part, like vocals or keyboards, and in doing so learn the value of focusing and striving for their best performance. Students that already play instruments will be encouraged to bring their instruments for use in the class.

In this course, students will have the opportunity to write a song of their own or if they play an instrument, they can play a part on another students song. In addition to their own song, there will be a class song that students can compose together. No student will be pressured into composing a song. This course does not teach music or any instrument, it is a creative expression course focusing on how to write and record a song. Mark Tyson is a multi-instrumentalist and will be able to perform the basic parts for the songs on his audio workstation.

CD's will be provided by Mark Tyson, the first CD is free and copies are $2:00 each. Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced classes available - grades 2 - 5

Music Makes You Smarter Workshops are designed for 6 to 12 week courses (10-12 classes). They are also available for individual one-day workshops. Classes are 60 to 90 minutes long and can be scheduled between 2:00 and 6:00pm Monday -Friday.
Class size - 4-7 students / Live demonstrations upon request
All classes are taught by Mark Tyson, assistants are used when needed.
